Idle & Hidden Pages

Idle and hidden pages are pages of your website that are not visible on the navigation menus. Idle pages are INDEXED by Google, while Hidden pages are not.

Each premium functionality can be activated separately.


 

What are Idle Pages?

The Idle pages menu is perfect for allocating specific landing pages that are not needed in your main menu or footer.  Within this menu you can also add the temporary content that is not relevant right now but you want to keep for SEO purposes. They are INDEXED by Google and can be found in search results.

What are Hidden Pages?

This functionality allows you to have published pages that are only accessible by a direct URL. Also the system pages such as the “Booking Confirmation” page are contained in this menu. The pages in this menu are NOT INDEXED and will not appear in search results, they are perfect for your Newsletter private links.

Where can I find the setup for Idle & Hidden Pages? 

Go to Section “2. Manage Content” > “Menu & Pages”.

There you will find the configuration for your Idle & Hidden Menus. In order to use these menus you need to have the functionality activated. Please, contact us if you don’t have this functionality and you wanna try it.

How do I set up Idle & Hidden Pages?

  1. Create a page or move an existing one:
    You can create a new page for Idle & Hidden Pages, directly in the specific menu section. Or if your page already exists, you just need to move the existing page from a menu to another. You can move pages in or out of these menus as easily as any other menu. Go to the page in mouseover and then click to “Move to other Menu” and choose your landing menu between Hidden and Idle Pages.

Please Note: A page that contains other subpages can’t be moved to another menu. Idle & Hidden Pages allow only one level of menu. You can’t move a tree there.

Save the changes: Use the “Save” button at the bottom of the page to store all the changes. All the changes will be immediately visible on the live website.

Is the look and feel customisable?

The pages in the Idle & Hidden Menu are going to follow the same style as the rest of your website. We can use web sections assigned to any page to change the look and feel of the page or apply to a group of pages. For example the background patterns, colour, fonts are just some of the elements that could be used to change the style of the page. We can also change the style of sections of the page using content block group class.

Sitemap.xml


Each Smart site has a sitemap.xml file that can be use to see what pages are active and therefore can be found and index by google and other search engines. It can be useful to check this to ensure the pages you want to hide are in fact hidden. On the other hand you can check all pages in all languages that are active and crawlable by search bots .

Also you can check site map in the footer navigation which will show only links added to the Main menu and footer navigation.
