All you need to know about your Booking Platform New Cookie Banner
As part of our ongoing commitment to data privacy and compliance, we’ve introduced a new cookie consent banner on the Booking Platform (BP) for all hotels using the latest version.
This update ensures your property remains compliant with data protection regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), particularly when interacting with guests from the European Union (EU).
To help protect your business and your guests, the cookie banner is enabled by default. However, if your hotel does not process personal data from users based in the EU, you have the option to disable the banner.
Below, we explain how the banner works and provide a simple guide to manage or disable it.
Why Has This Changed?
The new cookie banner ensures compliance with GDPR in two key scenarios:
- When users arrive via your hotel website
- When users land directly on the Booking Platform (e.g. through Google Ads, metasearch, or direct links)
Previously, consent collected on your website might not carry over to the Booking Platform. Now, every guest interaction is covered — even if they bypass your site entirely.
Because of this, the cookie banner is now active by default for all hotels with the new Booking Platform enabled.
When Can You Disable the Cookie Banner?
You may disable the banner only if:
- Your hotel is not established in the EU, and
- You do not offer services to, or monitor the behaviour of, individuals located in the EU
📌 Important: Under GDPR, any hotel that markets to, accepts bookings from, or tracks the online behaviour of EU residents must obtain valid consent — regardless of where the hotel is located.
If this applies to your property, you must keep the banner enabled to remain compliant.
How to Disable the Cookie Banner (Step-by-Step)
If you’ve confirmed that GDPR does not apply to your hotel, follow these steps to disable the banner:

Log in to the Extranet: https://admin.bookassist.com/hotel_admin/login.jsp

Go to ‘Cookie Banner Configuration’
Navigate to the new menu option under Hotel Setup > Cookie Banner Configuration -
Select Your Preference
You’ll see the following option:'Please indicate the GDPR requirement of your hotel:'
Select:
- ❌ No → The cookie banner will be disabled on the Booking Platform

Save Your Changes
Click Save to apply your selection.
What Happens When You Disable the Banner?
If you select “No”:
- The cookie banner will not appear on the Booking Platform
- Tracking and analytics scripts will load automatically
- No consent will be requested or stored
- Users will not see any option to accept or manage cookies
